COST Action BIRTH Conference, Lisbon, September 17-18, 2018

Today is our opportunity to make a difference! Getting maternity care right for mothers and babies is vital for all countries and societies. It is important to reduce avoidable deaths and ill health. However, it is also crucial that interventions designed to reduce risk for the few mothers and babies who develop complications are not used for mothers and babies who are healthy. Over use of interventions can be harmful, and uses up resources that should be targeted on those who need them. Part of the solution is to explore the under-researched area of what makes childbirth go well (as opposed to what makes it go wrong). This was the moto of the 4-year project BIRTH (Building Intrapartum Research Through Health), funded by COST. Over 100 scientists, artists, professionals, activists, political stakeholders and service users from around 30 countries in Europe and beyond got together to unveil the complexity within normal childbirth physiology in different populations, individuals, and contexts, with a positive, salutogenic approach. Join us in this discussion, towards sustainable childbirth!  From Birth to Health Towards Sustainable Childbirth  REGISTER:  #EUBIRTHconf18
